Town Hall Meeting on Race Relations Initiative

8/7/2018

The Gainesville Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) is hosting a town hall style meeting as a follow up to “Understanding Inequity in Alachua County Study,” the racial disparity report that was released approximately seven months ago. The public event will be held at the Thelma Boltin Center (516 NE Second Ave.) Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

The OEO supports the premise that every city resident and visitor, every business, every community institution and every neighboring community benefits from successful efforts to decrease racial inequities in the greater Gainesville area. This event will be unique in that it will bring community leaders and the public together to foster dialogue about racial inequity in a systematic, comprehensive and community-wide effort. Issues to be discussed include:

  1. what is being done
  2. what still needs to be accomplished
  3. possibilities for collaboration
  4. an assessment of resources needed to move forward
