Learn Disc Golf from the Gainesville Chain Hawks at Northside Park
Want to discover a new activity? The Gainesville Chain Hawks are hosting an event, Discs n’ Dogs, to introduce people to the sport of disc golf. The event is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Northside Park, located at 5701 NW 34th Blvd. Participants will receive a free disc to play with and hot dogs for refreshments. Experienced players will be available to demonstrate the sport and show visitors around the park’s disc golf course.
Disc golf is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a chain basket, and is played using rules similar to golf. The disc golf course at Northside Park is 18 holes, and traverses the park’s wooded areas. Regular golf terminology is used, such as tees, fairways, park, birdies, etc., and the sport is appropriate for all ages.
The Gainesville Chain Hawks has a long-term partnership with the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The disc golf course at Northside Park is the oldest in north Florida and the Chain Hawks have helped to maintain the fairways and promote its use. The club hosts several events at the course, including a regional tournament each year in December.
