The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shake Rag Cultural Center, Inc., welcomes Tim Kliphuis and his accompaniment Alfonso Ponticelli, to the next Jewel Box Concert at the Thomas Center to be held Wednesday, April 11.
Award-winning Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis performs a high-energy blend of classical, gypsy jazz and folk music. His improvised sound is totally new and has popular appeal. Widely regarded as the legendary Stéphane Grappelli’s heir, Kliphuis is classically trained, and is a highly personal and inspiring performer, composer and educator.
"We are always looking for unique and trend-setting artists to fill our concert series and produce performances that may never make it to our area," says Debi Evans of Shake Rag Cultural Center, Inc.
Of the concert, Kliphuis relates, “Alfonso and I will be pursuing the 'Gypsy Jazz Duets' format that I premiered with guitarist Sam Miltich to great acclaim. It is music from the gypsy tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, with a lot of surprises along the way. It will be a musical conversation between two friends.”
More information on Tim Kliphuis is available at www.timkliphuis.com, and information on Alfonso Ponticelli is available at www.swinggitan.com.
