City Recognizes Black History Month
The City of Gainesville is recognizing Black History Month and the contributions African-Americans have made to make Gainesville an all inclusive city. The public is invited to hear a proclamation on the steps of the Gainesville City Hall (200 E. University Ave.) Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
February is the time to recognize the achievements and contributions of African-Americans in the areas of education, medicine, science, politics, criminal justice, religion, business, the arts, social justice and much more. "I urge all Gainesville citizens to celebrate our diverse heritage and culture and continue our efforts to create a world that is more just, peaceful and prosperous for all," said Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe.
