The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shake Rag Cultural Center, Inc., welcomes Grammy-nominated duo Kenny and Amanda Smith to the next Jewel Box Concert at the Thomas Center held Thursday, Feb. 8.
Kenny and Amanda Smith were winners of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) prestigious Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2003. Since then, they have also earned IBMA awards for Female Singer of the Year, as well as several awards for Guitar Player of the Year. The duo combines gutsy, heartfelt vocals, brilliant instrumental talents and a powerful, contemporary sense of song choice and arrangement into one of the most compelling new sounds today.
“It’s rare to see a husband and wife win prestigious awards in their own respective categories, but not when it comes to Kenny and Amanda Smith. I’ve been watching them do this for the last eleven years, which is just one of the reasons we are so proud to bring them to our stage,” says Debi Evans of Shake Rag Cultural Center, Inc.
Amanda and Scott Anderson, a popular father-daughter duo from local Gainesville will start the evening off with their great story songs and tight family harmonies.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m. General admission is $20, and VIP seating is $30 at the door. Seating is limited, but tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.evansmediasource.com.
