The “Free Fridays” Concert Series and the Gainesville Latino Film Festival (GLFF) have partnered to bring the Gainesville community a “Night in El Barrio” with Latin music played by the JP Latin Allstars Friday, Sept. 29 from 8-10 p.m.

JP Latin Allstars, based in Jacksonville, Florida since 2008, play a variety of Latin fusion rhythms such as salsa, cha-cha-cha, rumba flamenca, meregue, regueton, Spanish rock, cumbia and bachata. The band includes Javier Perez (guitar/vocals), Gustavo Barraza (bass/vocals), Henderson Olivares (drums/vocals) and Liliana Sanchez (vocals/dancer), all from Venezuela. Neil Champagne (trumpet/guitar) is from the U.S., Eddie Ramirez (electric guitar) is from Colombia and Al Ortiz (congas) is from Puerto Rico. JP Latin Allstars replace the Gainesville band Gilberto De Paz and Tropix on the “Free Fridays” schedule who cancelled due to an unexpected conflict.

As part of Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, the Gainesville Latino Film Festival features a series of free film screenings, music and dance performances, art exhibitions and storytelling from Sept. 14-30. It is hosted and organized by the Latina Women’s League of Gainesville, and is one of Gainesville’s biggest and most diverse international cultural events. Dedicated to developing, promoting and increasing awareness of Latino cultures, the GLFF’s mission is to create a cultural dialogue amongst Latinos and non-Latinos to discuss universal, cross-cultural experiences. All shows are free and open to the public. For more information on the film festival, visit http://gainesvillelatinofilmfestival.com/.

Founded in 2005, the Latina Women’s League is an all women, non-profit organization (501c3) dedicated to contributing to the Latino/Hispanic culture and art in Gainesville. The Latina Women’s League was created as a forum for the discussion of the experiences of Latina women living in the United States.
