Foundations Academy After-School Program Starts Aug. 21
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is gearing up for another great year with Foundations Academy After-School Program. Foundations Academy takes place from Aug. 21, 2017 through June 1. PRCA is pleased to offer this fun-filled, educational program for children in first through eighth grade.
Activities play a vital role in the development and well-being of younger Gainesville residents. Florida Recreation and Park Association initiatives have been adopted for programming to include education, health, economic development, environmental sustainability and community building, in addition to the Character Counts educational strategy. Participants will be involved in various life-long recreational and educational activities, including tutoring, tennis, art/crafts, basketball, board games, volunteerism, citizenship and more. PRCA’s goal is to provide children with positive and memorable experiences.
The cost for Foundations Academy is $17.50 per week for city residents and $26.25 per week for non-city residents. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or voter identification card, are required for registration. Fees are subject to change as of Oct. 1, 2017. Scholarships are available at all locations for children who have been approved for free or reduced lunch through the SBAC Food Services department.
The program is offered in four convenient locations: Albert “Ray” Massey Recreation Center, Clarence R. Kelly Community Center, Eastside Community Center, and Porters Community Center.
