7/26/2017

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shake Rag Cultural Center, Inc., is pleased to announce the next Jewel Box Concert at the Thomas Center Thursday, Aug. 24. The concert features jazz legend Linda Cole. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.evansmediasource.com.

Jazz singer Linda Cole, grandniece of the legendary Nat King Cole, will perform this evening and has already created quite a buzz around town. The Thomas Center is the perfect venue for her to showcase her talent and uphold the Cole name.  Cole has sung professionally since she was three-years-old.

Her family group, "The Singing Coles," are part of Illinois music history.  They began with religious songs, and later added popular music to their programs. The Cole family made their mark in the U.S. music scene. Linda branched out into rhythm and blues, traveling from Manhattan, New York to Detroit, Michigan (as an opening act for the Motown Review) and has appeared with such groups as The Spinners, Count Basie and many others.

Concert-goers may bring their favorite wine or champagne, and an attendant will tend their bottle. Plastic glasses will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own glasses as well. Food catered by Celebrity Soul Food will be available for purchase.
