City Employees Return to a Five-Day Workweek Aug. 14
The City of Gainesville is pleased to announce a change in its regular 40-hour work week from the current 7 a.m.-6 p.m., four-day work schedule to an 8 a.m.-5 p.m., five-day work week, beginning Monday, Aug. 14, 2017. As the City of Gainesville General Government continues to evolve as a citizen-centered organization, we are excited by the opportunity to revise city employee regular work schedules to attain this goal.
“This change in the regular 40-hour work week schedule will enable the city to provide full service to our citizens at all city facilities, including City Hall, five days a week from Monday through Friday,” said Anthony Lyons, Gainesville’s city manager. “Additionally, the new schedule will improve the quality of life for city employees by enabling a better work-life balance.”
The change in regular work hours will also align General Government hours of operation with GRU work hours as indicated in the citizen-led Blue Ribbon initiative. Department managers have been empowered to facilitate this transition by working closely with their teams and with individual employees who may have special circumstances.
The effort to provide full citizen-centered service to the public and internal customers remains our highest priority, and we will continue to accommodate work practices that help us to achieve that goal. For example, the Department of Doing will continue its current work schedule of 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. to better serve the public.
