Driving Range Remains Open During Ironwood Golf Course's Fairway Renovation this Summer
Ironwood Golf Course is undergoing renovations to its fairways this summer. The golf course is expected to be closed for play from May 1-Aug. 31, 2017. Ironwood Golf Course did renovations to its tee boxes and greens in 2010, and the fairways project will complete the work from the initial renovation.
The fairways will be sprigged with Celebration Bermudagrass, which has finished best in numerous research studies for wear resilience, divot recovery, drought resistance and shade tolerance. The golf course will also add fairway drainage, duplicating the same process for installing two-inch slit drainage that was used in the 2010 renovation.
Several other projects and improvements to the golf course will be completed during the four-month closure, such as cleaning ditches to improve water flow and selective clearing to some of Ironwood’s ponds, which will allow for airflow and sunlight. All of the improvements will adhere to the requirements to remain an Audubon-certified cooperative sanctuary, a designation that Ironwood has held since the mid-1990s. A new, self-contained range ball machine will be added to the driving range, along with state-of-the-art hitting mats to allow golfers to warm up or hone their skills before playing the renovated course. A new restroom will also be added to the front nine to accommodate golfers.
The driving range will remain open throughout the summer with limited hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to dusk, closed on Monday and Tuesday. Ironwood will have a daily afternoon happy hour and a limited menu for patrons wanting to practice in the afternoons. The banquet room will remain available for event rental throughout the summer.
Already known for its efforts of attracting junior golfers and growing the game of golf, Ironwood Golf Course will still have its summer junior camps. The dates are June 27-30, July 18-21, and Aug 1-4. Each week-long session is $150.
