The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and 352arts is pleased to announce Gainesville’s first 3-D mural, created by local multidisciplinary artist Daniel Vélez-Climent. This weekend on Saturday, Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12, Vélez-Climent will paint the mural titled "Shackles," at 200 NE First St., while the Downtown Festival & Art Show is occurring nearby.

Gainesville will transform into a masterful blend of art, music and entertainment during the 36th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show, one of the nation’s premier outdoor fine arts festivals. Presented by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA), the festival draws a crowd of 90,000 visitors each year. On Saturday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can meet the exhibiting artists, enjoy live music and sample international cuisine.

The soulful sound of blues will usher in the Downtown Festival & Art Show weekend Friday, Nov. 10 with a free Downtown Blues Concert on the Bo Diddley Plaza from 7-10 p.m. The North Central Florida Blues Society is pleased to announce an evening under the stars featuring three incredible blues performances.

Young artists (age seven to 18) are invited to join a tradition of artistic excellence and showcase their talent as the 36th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show honors young and aspiring artists in the Young Artist section. Recognized as one of the top fine art shows in the country, the festival is sponsored by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. On Saturday, Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12, more than 240 local and national artists will display original oils and acrylics, vibrant watercolors, captivating sculptures, dazzling jewelry, decorative ceramics and vivid photography in historic downtown Gainesville. Young Artist applications for the Downtown Festival & Art Show are available upon request at 352-393-8536 or online at www.gainesvilledowntownartfest.org/. The application deadline is July 1, 2017.

Join a tradition of artistic excellence by submitting an artist application for the 36th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show. Recognized as one of the top fine art shows in the country, the festival is sponsored by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. On Saturday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 12, more than 240 artists will display original oils and acrylics, vibrant watercolors, captivating sculptures, dazzling jewelry, decorative ceramics and vivid photography in historic downtown Gainesville. They will compete for $22,000 in cash prizes and purchase awards. Applications for the Downtown Festival & Art Show are available upon request at 352-393-8536 or online at www.gvlculturalaffairs.org. The application deadline is Thursday, May 4, 2017.
