The Solid Waste Division is responsible for coordinating the City's trash, yard waste and recycling programs as well as sponsoring environmentally-friendly cleanup projects in the Gainesville community and enforcement of the Solid Waste Code of Ordinances, Chapter 27, Article III, Sec. 71-88.
The Solid Waste Division operates on a 4-day/10-hour work week. Our days/hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm.

Effective December 1, 2009 there will be an anticipated 10% residential refuse rate increase. This is due to the expiration of a 15-year contract and subsequent award of a new 7-year contract to Emerald Waste Services. The increase reflects rising costs in collection, disposal, processing and fuel. To view the new rates, click here.

Emerald Waste Services Issue Track, a web-based complaint tracking system, is now available. Residents can enter a complaint on-line, receive an individual tracking number and track its progress until it has been resolved and closed.
