Solid Waste Mission Statement
Our Goal is to provide the City of Gainesville exceptional customer satisfaction, achieved through timely delivery of quality services by effective management of our solid waste system and our resources.
The Solid Waste Division is responsible for coordinating the City's trash, yard waste and recycling programs as well as sponsoring environmentally-friendly cleanup projects in the Gainesville community and enforcement of the Solid Waste Code of Ordinances, Chapter 27, Article III, Sec. 71-88.
The Solid Waste Division operates on a 4-day/10-hour work week. Our days/hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm.

Starting Jan 23, 2012 a new addition to our curbside recycling program has been added, the city will start taking school workbooks and paperback books.
Holiday trees picked up at curbside. Check theA-Z Recycling Source for Christmas tree disposal.
The Solid Waste Division has started a new year-round String Lights Recycling Program. Bring your old Christmas or party string lights to the Public Works Center, 405 NW 39 Avenue. There will be a string lights recycling container outside the lobby of the new Administrative building.

All overflow garbage must be placed in official yellow bags that can be purchased at Publix or Albertsons. Ask for them at the service counter.
Since August 8, 2011 a new pilot program for E-scrap (electronics) recycling was implemented that provides curbside collection of this material by disabled citizens working with ARC of Alachua County. Your participation can help ARC provide much needed jobs, while recovering valuable materials that would have been buried in a landfill otherwise. Read More
Textile materials can now be recycled at the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station and the Alachua County Collection Centers. Read More

Emerald Waste Services Issue Track, a web-based complaint tracking system, is now available. Residents can enter a complaint on-line, receive an individual tracking number and track its progress until it has been resolved and closed.
