Our Awards and Recognitions
Several award winning programs are provided by the department, including the Clean Water Partnership, which is jointly funded by the City of Gainesville, Alachua County and the Florida Department of Transportation and the Traffic Management System, jointly funded by the City of Gainesville, Alachua County, University of Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Our Affiliations
Public Works achieved national accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA) in December 2007 with several individual practices and two chapters, the Emergency Management and Strategic Planning chapters, receiving Best Management Practice designations. The department successfully completed reaccreditation in January 2011.
Our Home
In September 2010, several Public Works Divisions moved into the newly completed Public Works Administration Building located at 405 NW 39th Avenue. The building houses the award-winning Traffic Management Center. The building is being submitted for LEED Silver status and is built to CAT 5 standards in order to function as the Department's Emergency Operations Center.
