The Planning Department includes the following areas:

The Comprehensive Planning section updates the City's Comprehensive Plan, prepares Special Area Plans and Corridor Plans, and updates the City's Land Development Code. The Comprehensive Planning staff also reviews any proposed land use and zoning changes.

The Current Planning section reviews development plans, subdivisions, planned developments, special use permits, and variances.

Land Use and Zoning Changes for Annexed Properties in the Southwest
On November 10, 2009, Planning staff held a Neighborhood Workshop to discuss the proposed land use and zoning changes in the recently annexed areas around SW 20th Avenue and SW 43rd Street. Please click here to see the draft Land Use map changes and here for the draft Zoning map changes. These proposed map changes will be heard by the City Plan Board on December 7, 2009.
Proportionate Fair-Share and TCEA Amendments
July 28, 2009 City Commission heard the first reading of the following ordinances regarding Proportionate Fair-Share and the citywide TCEA Comprehensive Plan Amendments:
- Proportionate Fair-Share Amendments Ordinance #0-09-33
- Citywide TCEA Comprehensive Plan Policies Ordinance #0-09-34
- Adopting new TCEA maps in the Comprehensive Plan Ordinance #0-09-35
Preserve America Community Designation
In 2008, the City achieved a Preserve America Community designation which recognizes cities that protect and celebrate their heritage assets for economic development and community revitalization. The Planning Division celebrated this achievement at the EAR Kickoff meeting in April 2009 that dedicated the EAR process with the title: Honoring our Past, Planning the Future.
