History
Organized in 1886, Gainesville Fire Rescue replaced horse-drawn pumpers in 1917 and became a fully-paid fire department in 1925. 
 
ISO Fire Protection Classification
Gainesville's Fire Protection Classification Rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) for 2008 is Three/Nine (3/9).  The next scheduled ISO inspection will be in 2014.

7 Stations including 1 Airport Firefighting Station; 132 Combat Personnel; 22 Support-Administrative Personnel; 5 Engines, 2 Towers, 1 Quint, 1 Hazmat Unit, 1 EMS Squad, 2 District Chiefs, 1 Air and Light Truck, 3 Aircraft Firefighting units.  Total adopted budget for FY08 = $13,378,736; Personal Services portion = $11,373,869.  Operates with an automatic aid agreement with Alachua County for closest unit response in an extended area around the City limits.
