History
Organized in 1886, Gainesville Fire Rescue replaced horse-drawn pumpers in 1917 and became a fully-paid fire department in 1925. 
 
ISO Fire Protection Classification
Gainesville's Fire Protection Classification Rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) for 2008 is Three (3).  The next scheduled ISO inspection will be in 2014.

7 Stations including 1 Airport Firefighting Station; 132 Combat Personnel; 22 Support-Administrative Personnel; 5 Engines, 2 Towers, 1 Quint, 1 Hazmat Unit, 1 EMS Squad, 2 District Chiefs, 1 Air and Light Truck, 3 Aircraft Firefighting units.  Total adopted budget for FY08 = $13,378,736; Personal Services portion = $11,373,869.  Operates with an automatic aid agreement with Alachua County for closest unit response in an extended area around the City limits.
