City Offices Closed for Thanksgiving

In observance of Thanksgiving, city offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27. Additionally, all RTS offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26, and there will be no RTS bus service. ADA paratransit service will not be running on this date, including dialysis appointments. Bus service will be limited the rest of the weekend (Friday, November 27 through Sunday, November 29). Please visit http://www.go-rts.com/ for bus route and schedule information for those days. Residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling and yard trash normally scheduled for Thursday, November 26, will be delayed until Friday. That is the only collection day that will be affected.

St. Francis House and City of Gainesville Partner for Thanksgiving Day Meal
The City of Gainesville is pleased to announce that the St. Francis House has accepted the city’s offer to use the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Center, located at 1024 NE 14th St. in Gainesville as a supplementary site for providing voluntary meal service to the homeless and disadvantaged families during the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 26.

The Recreation Division is pleased to recognize the participants of the Pop Warner Cheerleading program. While participating in the Putnam Athletic League Cheer Competition on Saturday, Oct. 17, the “Baby Gators” were awarded first place in the Junior Pee-Wee, Pee Wee and Junior Midget divisions.

A Journey through Eastern Civilizations and the Gainesville Handweavers Guild
The Thomas Center Galleries announce the opening of the "A Journey through Eastern Civilizations: From the Collection of William Earl Hutchinson’s Theatre of Memory" exhibition, which will run from Oct. 24, 2009 – Jan. 10, 2010 in the Main Gallery. This exhibition is a rich historical and esthetic journey through an eclectic collection of more than 100 rare Asian artifacts and documents loaned from the Theatre of Memory.

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Thomas Center for the Arts on December 5
On Saturday, Dec. 5, the City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is hosting its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Thomas Center for the Arts. The free program will run from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. and will feature caroling by the Singers of the Reformation and the Gainesville Harmony Show Chorus, as well as holiday music on the hammered dulcimer and autoharp by the Gypsy Guerrilla Band.

New curbside contract changes collection days, rates
Significant changes to the city's curbside collection program for solid waste, yard trash and recycling include: changes to some residents' collection day; the addition of pasteboard for recycling collection; bulk and yard trash changes; enhancement to customer service; and an additional holiday.
