Historic Days and Medieval Knights

Experience a world of medieval magic, where jousting knights, dancing gypsies and historic heroes mingle with visitors at the 26th Annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire. During the last weekend in January and the first weekend in February, on Jan. 28 and 29 and Feb. 4 and 5, the Alachua County Fairgrounds transforms into a medieval marketplace filled with hundreds of artisans and entertainers. A special School Day celebration on Friday, Feb. 3 features half-price ticket sales for all guests.

Second "Focus on the Future" Community Forum Scheduled for Feb. 6

The City of Gainesville City Commission is coming to east Gainesville to get more feedback from city residents about their vision for the future development of the city. The commission will hold the second of two scheduled “Focus on the Future” community forums on Monday, Feb. 6 from 6-9 p.m. at the Eastside Recreation Center at Cone Park, which is located at 2841 E. University Ave. in Gainesville. Residents of the Gainesville community are invited to come out and join commissioners in an informal setting featuring round table discussion groups.

Third Annual Gainesville Photography Contest: Gainesville Transitions Exhibition at the Hippodrome

The City of Gainesville Communications Office is pleased to announce the opening of the Third Annual Gainesville Photography Contest: Gainesville Transitions Exhibition, which will run from Monday, Feb. 13-Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 in the Hippodrome Art Gallery at the Hippodrome State Theatre.

Applications for Fire Assessment Hardship Programs Due May 1, 2012

Applications for the City of Gainesville Special Assessment for Fire Services Hardship Assistance Programs are now available. The city offers two hardship programs, one for senior citizens age 65 and over, and another for low-income citizens. Applications for the Special Assessment for Fire Services Hardship Assistance Programs for the 2012-2013 fiscal year are due by May 1, 2012. Approved applications are only good for one year. New applications must be submitted each year that the program is available.

2012 Fire Flow Mitigation Credit Applications Due May 1, 2012

Gainesville offers a Fire Flow Mitigation Credit to eligible city property owners whose buildings are subject to the city fire services special assessment. Parcels containing buildings protected by automatic sprinkler systems that fully meet state and city standards and are properly installed, monitored and maintained are eligible for a 10 percent reduction in net Factored Fire Protection Units assigned to the building(s).
