Get Involved

There are a variety of ways citizens can get involved. Some opportunities are short-term commitments, while others require a longer commitment. Take a look at the civic opportunities that are currently available and decide how you can get involved!

Citizens' Advisory Boards and Committees: There is an advisory board or committee to suit almost every interest. Check back regularly to see if there are any board/committee openings.

City Hall Volunteer: The City of Gainesville is looking for dedicated volunteers to help maintain the City Hall reception desk. This is a very important position as it is the first point of contact citizens have when entering City Hall and we need your help to keep things running smoothly! This is a wonderful chance to meet new people and gain a better understanding of how your award winning City functions as an organization. We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing people with at least basic computer skills. Also, you must be at least 18 years of age. We would like volunteers that can make a 6 month commitment. Volunteers will receive training for the position. Interested parties should contact Bob Woods at 334-5017.

Volunteer for the 27th Annual Downtown Festival and Art Show: The 27th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show is looking for people, organizations and businesses who would like to become volunteers for that weekend. Four-hour shifts are available on November 10-11 to volunteers of all ages. If you are interested in helping at this event or need additional information, please contact Linda Piper at 393-8536.

Give a Better Way!: Give a Better Way! is accepting donations on its Web site at www.gainesvillegives.org and at the donations meters found in downtown Gainesville. All donations made through the Web site, as well as donations collected at the donation meters, will go to the Alachua County Coalition for the Homeless and Hungry to help the homeless in our community. To learn more about Give a Better Way! or to donate online, please visit www.gainesvillegives.org.
