Commissioner Harvey Ward

First elected in March 2017 and then re-elected in 2020, Harvey Ward, Jr. is a native of Gainesville and a graduate of Eastside High, Santa Fe College and the University of Florida. He served as Mayor Pro-Tem in 2019 and 2020 and chaired the city’s CRA in 2019. Harvey has also chaired the city’s Digital Access committee and the Gainesville/Alachua Joint County Climate and Water Policy Board.
Harvey has worked in the Gainesville non-profit community for decades, both professionally and as a volunteer. He formerly served as Executive Director of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Foundation and worked in several capacities at WUFT-TV/FM.
Harvey is married to Gillian Lord-Ward, and they have three daughters attending Gainesville public schools.
Committees: Commissioner Ward currently serves on the Gainesville/Alachua County Joint Climate and Water Policy Board and the city’s Digital Access and Zero Waste Committees.
