The City of Gainesville celebrates National Bike Month with a Bike Ride with the Mayor and Commissioners Saturday, May 26 beginning at 9 a.m. The public is invited to join Mayor Lauren Poe, City Commissioners and other local leaders to highlight the benefits of cycling and the coordinated efforts of the city, county, university and local developers to create a continuous urban trail system.
The three-mile ride begins at 9:30 a.m. at Depot Park, with a coffee and doughnuts meetup beginning at 9 a.m. The ride begins at Depot Park, showcasing the Depot Trail, and continues to the Helyx Bridge. The bike ride is a leisurely 45 minute, three-mile ride and is kid-friendly, so bring your bike trailers and training wheels!
Active Streets will be at Depot Park with some of their kinetic derby creations, the Gainesville Cycling Club (GCC) will give a brief safety talk, and Goodbike will be available for free bike check-ups. The City of Gainesville Public Works Department will be doing bike helmet fittings and handing out free bike helmets and bike lights.
